Opportunity Matters

Kim’s goal and hope is that in the next three years, he will strenghten the capacity and the ability of the children in the community to be able to attend sports schools or various sports competitions.

“Since I never had a chance and budget to study, I want the younger generation in the community to have this opportunity through sports.” Kim is a youth community coach trained by Right To Play. Kim helps train and encourage the children in the Rim Thang Rotfai community to play sports. “I’m just a normal person, who wants to help these children to continue to play sports, especially futsal.” said Kim. “My daily duty is to plan the practice schedule for the team before the practice starts. As a coach I also have a duty to be a role model. I will introduce and explain point by point to everyone. I have to be a leader that the younger generation can follow.”

Kim’s goal and hope is that in the next three years, he will strenghten the capacity and the ability of the children in the community to be able to attend sports schools or various sports competitions. Because he wants the children to have good economic stability and a good future. “I have always tried to unlock opportunities for the children and young people in the community. I always give a second chance and I will always be here for them.” For as long as there are children who want to play sports, Kim is determined to continue to be a community coach.

At this moment, Kim has started getting the children out to qualify for sport competitions where the children will be able to demonstrate their ability. Kim tries to encourage them to not be afraid of what they do because it is their future. Kim said: “if they don’t run after their dream themselves, they will never meet their own dreams.”

“I would like to thank Right To Play and specifically, the Side By Side team for the opportunity to work with them. In the beginning, before Right To Play came to support my community, we did not even have a ball to practice with. Now, we are equipped not only with sports equipment, but also with life skills that are important for me as well as for the children to learn, lead, and succeed. Starting with only 2-3 children, now we have been able to have groups of children that come and practice their futsal and life skills on the pitch.”

For me, Side By Side program is like a family to me and the children in the community because it helps me and the children in the community to be better at sports, knowledgeable in sports and able to develop myself into a better person.  In addition, Side by Side has also created many experiences and offers me many good opportunities, such as going to watch football, met with professional footballers and practiced a variety of sports skills
