Right To Play Thailand Foundation Event to Promote Children's Financial Education
Celebrating International Child and Youth Finance Week with Play Activities

BANGKOK, THAILAND (Friday 15, March, 2013) – Right To Play Thailand Foundation is excited to announce that it will join forces with Plan International as an implementing partner and MasterCard Worldwide as our global sponsor, together with in-kind support from the Government Saving Bank of Thailand and the Thai Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection under the Ministry of Justice today to celebrate Child and Youth Finance Day. The partnership will host a series of play-based activities at the Sirindhorn Juvenile Vocational Training Center, Nakhon Pathom Province to promote financial literacy and youth empowerment.

Founded in 2000, Right To Play is a global organization that uses the transformative power of play to educate and empower children facing adversity. In its role during Child and Youth Finance Day – also dubbed “Global Money Week” – Right To Play Thailand Foundation will use play-based activities to help prepare vulnerable children and youth for financial responsibility.

In cooperation with the Deputy Director-General from the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection, as well as the Ministry of Justice, the event will bring together 300 youth from five Youth Correctional Centers and students from four primary schools to participate in a youth art exhibition and play activities focused on teaching financial literacy at the Sirindhorn Juvenile Vocational Training Center, Nakhon Pathom Province.

Corporate guests will include Accenture Global, DKSH Thailand Ltd., Allianz and the World Bank.

Today, less than one per cent of children worldwide have access to financial education and financial inclusion. With an estimated one billion children living in poverty globally, the Global Money Week is an opportunity for organizations to come together to promote financial education and the inclusion of young people in money matters.

Coordinated and led by Child and Youth Finance International – a global organization based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands – more than 50 countries participate in the “Global Money Week,” which has the support of some of the world’s most prominent leaders and organizations, including the UN Secretary General.

“When children save a single coin, it does not represent more than what they carry in their pockets, but once they save a few more, it begins to represent something very different – a choice,” says Jeroo Billimoria, Founder and Executive Director of Child and Youth Finance International.

“That is what we are celebrating - the empowerment of the children and youth through the power of choice,” says Ernesto Rebustillo, acting Country Manager of Right To Play Thailand Foundation. "This means the choice to save, to make realistic and achievable financial goals, to differentiate need versus want, and to use life skills for sound financial decision-making.”

The event will also see Right to Play Thailand Foundation announcing an extension to the existing Financial Fitness program in collaboration with MasterCard. The program which was launched in 2012, seeks to provide youth with skills and knowledge in financial management and literacy. Right To Play and MasterCard have thus far, hosted two Financial Fitness week-long summer camps in Bangkok, which saw participation from 500 Thai youths, empowering them with essential financial skills related to decision making, responsibility and negotiation.
